Project Background

The Sydenham to Bankstown Rail Line project forms part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest program, converting an existing heavy rail corridor into a fully automated metro system. The upgrade replaces ageing infrastructure with modern metro standards, improving capacity, reliability, and accessibility across Sydney’s southwest.

The project solves a critical issue in Sydney’s public transport system, as it allows for an additional 100,000 passengers to utilise this train service. The project involves significant signalling and infrastructure upgrades, and upon completion, will increase the daily capacity across the Sydney network by almost 80 passengers per hour. Amplex is proud to have contributed to this monumental project, supplying a range of rail signalling, instrumentation and comms cables.

The works include extensive upgrades to stations, track, and systems, enabling high-frequency services and seamless integration with Sydney’s growing metro network. By separating metro operations from the existing rail network, the project removes a major bottleneck and supports faster, more consistent journey times.
