The Port Waratah terminal, operational since the 1970s, is one of the busiest terminals in the ARTC network; servicing around 600–800 trains per month.
The terminal plays a critical role in the Hunter Valley coal supply chain, supporting the efficient movement of freight from inland mines to the Port of Newcastle for export. As part of one of the largest coal export networks globally, the site operates within a high-demand, high-throughput environment where reliability, safety, and signalling performance are essential to maintaining network efficiency and minimising delays.
In 2022, Amplex supplied rail signaling cables to JMDR, supporting the major rail signaling upgrade to this terminal, improving freight transportation in the Hunter Valley region of NSW.
The upgrade formed part of broader efforts to enhance signalling infrastructure across the network, enabling improved operational control, increased capacity, and safer train movements within a heavily utilised rail corridor.
