Project Background

The Yara Fertiliser Project in Western Australia is a large-scale industrial facility focused on the production and export of ammonia and ammonium nitrate for global fertiliser markets. Located within the Burrup Peninsula industrial precinct near Karratha, the project integrates gas processing, chemical manufacturing, and bulk materials handling within a single operational hub.

Set within a coastal, cyclonic environment, the site presents unique conditions for infrastructure delivery, including high temperatures, salt-laden air, and demanding ground conditions. These factors require durable, high-performance electrical and cabling systems capable of maintaining reliability in harsh operating environments over the long term.

The facility supports both domestic industry and export demand, forming a key part of the regional supply chain for agriculture and resources sectors. As a major producer of ammonia, the project also plays an evolving role in the energy transition, with ammonia increasingly being explored as a hydrogen carrier and lower-emissions fuel source. Designed for continuous, high-volume operation, the plant provides scalable output, operational resilience, and long-term energy and industrial supply capability across the region.
